Remembering Sr. Romuald

“Be still and know that I am God”(Psalm 46:10; one of Sr. Rom’s favorite scriptures)

With gratitude we remember Sister Mary Romuald Bednarczyk, who was a member of St. Joseph Hospital’s founding community, the Felician Sisters for 65 years. “Sister Rom” as she was affectionately called, served our community and St. Joseph Hospital from 1974 until her retirement in 2013. She was an integral part of helping St. Joe’s grow into the healing ministry we know today. She tirelessly provided leadership to many departments such as; Marketing/Communications, Human Resources, Clinical Education and (along with Patricia Eye) helped launch our St. Joseph Hospice program.

Sister Rom dedicated her life to service, formation and education through the many roles she held in her consecrated life of ministry. Her beginnings were as a schoolteacher, then a Certified Social Worker and later as the VP of Mission Services at St. Joe’s. Her life of service exemplified the Felician charism of a “life lived guided by the Gospel, transformed by Christ and radiating joy and simplicity.”

A memorial service for Sister Romuald was held on Wednesday, April 21, at the Chapel within St. Joseph Hospital. Thank you to those who joined us in person or online.
